We’ll be heading to Riviera Maya this year and while we’re trying to narrow down the resorts, I’m wondering where’s the best spot to stay at a resort in that area? While we’re there, we’d like to go on a few excursion to see ruins (maybe Chichen Itza?), maybe Xplor adventure park? Definately some zipline. Would be cool to swim with dolphins. So, where should we stay to be near all those and have a great beach?

Stay in Playa del Carmen. The beaches are just in the process of being restored and they are very wide and really nice. PDC is only about 10 minutes away from Xplor and Xcaret (they are directly adjacent to one another). The parks are a little pricey but a lot of fun. And you can do all the adventure stuff you want. Since you know about Xplor, I assume you have looked at their web site, but just in case I attached both.

Chichen Itza is three hours away from PDC. It’s worth seeing and the temple of Kukulcan is one of the seven wonders of the world. However, you can no longer climb the pyramid. If you want to do that, take a tour to Copa or Ek Balaam. I prefer Ek Balaam, really interesting. Both of those are 2-3 hours from PDC also. Tulum is another ecological site that is 40 minutes from PDC. It’s located right on the ocean. Nice but not as impressive as the others.

You will love it!
